Silver heading to WJC after success in SA

ONE of the country’s top prodigy shot-put thrower Tuane Silver, who recently won a gold medal at the AVT seniors and U-20 athletics meeting league two (2) in Sasolburg, South Africa, will be going to the World Junior Championships in Colombia.

The World Junior Championships will be held from 2 to 7 August 2022 at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero in Cali, Colombia.

Silver, won a gold medal on 25 June after throwing a 15.38m, which is also a new national record.

Speaking to Confidente this week, the exciting Silver is already making a big name for herself in the sport of shot-up and that is overjoyed for winning the gold medal in South Africa.

“It is an honour to win such a prestigious event, and it gives great satisfaction being able to reap the fruit of the all hard work I have been putting it. The way forward now it preparing for the World Junior championships which are in Colombia at the beginning of August, and making sure that I can represent Namibia to the best of my abilities. I am extremely grateful to have been able to win this competition, to me it shows that I am making progress in a positive direction and also gives me that extra drive to keep working harder,” said Silver.

Silver is very much aware of the pressure that comes with at the World Junior Championships as she will be up against other top younger shot-put throwers.

“I never walk into a competition thinking that I am going to walk out with a medal. My only focus during competition is being my best I can possibly be in that circle. If I’m at my best and it wins me a medal I see it as n bonus,” she said.
