Simon bags double gold at Pupkewitz Athletics Championships

AFTER reading Confidente’s article titled “800m U17 title holder appeals for spikes”, a group of SWAPO Party members donated a pair of spikes and cash to Shifidi Simon ahead of the Pupkewitz Athletics Championships in Swakopmund last weekend.

Apart from SWAPO Party well-wishers, such as well-known athletics coach, Henk Botha and Nora Mpofu, a sports enthusiast, expressed interest to assist Simon.

Meanwhile, Rauna Hanghuwo  also donated a pair of spike worth N$3149.90 and a pair of socks valued at N$294.90.

Having received the assistance he yearned for, Simon did not disappoint at the Championships, where he successfully defended his 800-meter title and pulled a double by winning the 1500-meter race.

His victory at the second leg of the Pupkewitz Athletics Championships cements his status as a promising athlete destined for greatness with the much-needed funding.

Simon expressed gratitude for the kind gesture he received ahead of the Championships, saying it would enable him to excel even further in bigger events to come, beginning with the North-West University (NWU) Top 30 Championships in Potchefstroom, South Africa, later this year.

Speaking to Confidente this week, Simon said he continues to learn from Frank Fredericks’ video clips his coach Teofelus Moses shows him daily.
