Songbird Chimu returns with /Nororo

  By Rosalia David

NAMIBIA’S music guru Erna Chimu is gearing up for the release of her new single titled /Nororo featuring Patricia Ochurus which means ‘wash away my sins’.

In an interview with Confidente, Chimu expressed excitement towards her upcoming track saying that the song will somewhat make up for her one-year hiatus from music.

“Hopefully it will hit the airwaves by the beginning of October.

It’s a gospel song and I guess it was inspired by the feeling I had that day when I walked in the studio and standing behind the microphone. I wanted to be thankful for the life given, although we are sinners and make many mistakes, I was asking God to be forgiven. I guess someday we all need to bow down, give thanks and give praises unto the Lord,” she said.

/Nororo was produced by award winning producer Arrafath Muhure.

Chimu further mentioned that although she has not a clue to when her album will be released, she has recorded a couple of songs with the upcoming single being a debut track from the offering.

“The single will only be released to make up for the time waiting.

My last release was in 2020. We have been working on the album but so far there’s still a lot of work to be done and my reason for the silence … Covid-19 has been robbing us of our loved ones, restricting, it’s not easy for artists all over the world. But it’s also a good time for artists to work on their craft, spend time with family/ friends and appreciate life, forgive quickly, love honesty and be kind,” she added.

Fans have certainly missed the leading songbird and songwriter and her trademark traditional jazz sounds since the release of her bomb body of work titled Uprising in 2019, a compilation of traditional jazz and township mbaqanga, with a flavour of Damara punch beats.
