State funerals gobble extra N$5 million

THE government spent more than N$6.5 million on 54 state and official funerals between January and December 2021; blowing the prescribed budget by N$5 million.

This was revealed to Confidente by the executive director at the Office of the Prime Minister I-Ben Nashandi this week.

The office was only allocated a budget of N$1 million for state and official funerals but ended up using N$6 549 450.37, while it spent N$2 290 000 on the same cause in 2020.

OPM received a budget of N$417 million for the 2021/22 financial year.
