WITH the opening match of the 2022/2023, Debmarine Namibia Premiership kicking off on Sunday, 06 November at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek, all eyes will be on the African Stars vs University of Namibia (Unam) match.

The match is expected to attract lots of people in particular African Stars supporters who are known for coming out in big numbers whenever their side is in action, and Sunday match against Unam will be no different.

Stars, who have recruited some top renowned players, notably former Black Africa players, Dynamo Fredericks, Emilio Martin and Willy Stephanus who are national team material, heads into the match as favourites.

On the other hand UNAM might be tricky customers as they are being coached by one of the country’s top best local coaches in Ronny Kanalelo head coach and his assistant Robert Nauseb.

Unam team Manager, Natangwe Sakaria is confident his team has what it takes to topple Stars who will be one of the favourites to win the league title come end of the season.

“We are ready. We have been training for nearly six weeks which is enough.

Perhaps the only problem we are faced with is the administration department that is a little behind.

Playing at the Hage Geingob Stadium is more like at home but I cannot say this is the right or bad time to play Stars.  The players are motivated to play against Stars.

Stars ‘keeper Mervin ‘Lukaku’ Kasetura, who joined the team this season from Tura Magic FC, is confident that his team will come out victorious even though he will not be involved in the match.

Kasetura joined Stars that comprises of two national team goalkeepers in Kamaijanda Ndisiro and veteran ‘keeper Ratanda Mbazuvara who are all vying for the number one jersey.

“I can say that we are going to collect three points as I do trust my teammates.  It is quiet difficult to become number one at Stars but I do believe in myself.  I will just have to push hard. I will not be involved this weekend because I have a hamstring injury but next week I will join training. I knew, before hand, there was going to be competition for me at Stars,” Kasetura said.

The match will start at 17H00, with the gate opening at 13H00.

Tickets to the match are N$30.
