AFRICA Golf Confederation (AGC) secretary-general Hugh Mortimer has said that he is happy with the progress being made so far by the organising committee of the 2020 Nedbank Classic Dash Golf event slated for December 28 and 29 at Rossmund Golf Course in Swakopmund.

The event expected to attract some of the country’s top amateur golfers in both the male and female categories, was made possible after Nedbank Namibia sponsored with N0 000.

Namibia’s top amateur male golfer in Likius Nande, who is the 2017 Windhoek Lager Africa champion, is expected to grace at the Nedbank Classic Dash that will be hosted in his hometown and at the same venue where he works.

Speaking to Confidente Sports this week, Mortimer said: “I can say that I am happy with the progress being made by the organising committee. Planning started about three weeks ago and we are well on our way.

We have spots for 72 two-man teams making it 144 players in total.

“The Nedbank Desert Classic is filled with roughly 90 percent Namibian players and a few visitors from South Africa. It is an amateur event, professional players are welcome to enter based on the fact they have an official handicap at their local golf club.”

Mortimer revealed that prizes included an experience for some winners at the 2021 Nedbank Golf Challenge at the popular golf course at Sun City Resort in Rustenburg, South Africa.
