THE 2022 MTC Namibia Horse Racing Association Summer ended in style with jockey Ulla Swartbooi winning the cup in a race day event held at the Okahatjipara Turf in Okondjatu, in Otjozondjupa Region on November 26.

Swartbooi has now established himself as arguably the best jockey in the country.

Riding on French Leaves, Swartbooi won the ultimate main race of the day, the MTC Import Open 2200m, which saw French Leave taking home a cool N$25 000 in prize money, while Swartbooi received personal prize money amounting to N$2 500.

Second place went to Crystal Stream, while in third place was Starlile and fourth place went to Bold Diva.

Speaking after the race, Swartbooi who also won other races before the main race, said he knew he was going to win the main race.

Swartbooi also won the Nambred A division 2000m with Lady Diamond and  Honest Illusion in the open division 1400m.

“ Yes, I knew I was going to win the final race after winning the other races. It was a tough race though.  I  was not surprised to win at all,” Swartbooi said.

The win in the main race was a follow-up on Swartbooi’s previous win at the Debmarine Horse racing event in Gobabis nearly three weeks ago when he won the Import Open 2200m race also with French Love.

He was also the winner in Botswana this year where he won the Mascom derby worth N$22 500.
