Team Namibia ready for AUSC Region Five

TEAM Namibia is ready for the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region Five (5), which will be hosted in Malawi from December 2 to11 in Lilongwe.

The AUSC Region 5 comprises of 10 countries from the Southern African region namely- Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Team Namibia is ready for the games, despite the stiff competition the country will come up against top renowned nations, notably South Africa and host Malawi for medals.

Football

Namibia’s football under-17 boys coach, Gerald Günther said his team’s aim was to qualify to the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria next year, as the top two teams at the tournament qualifies for the tournament, as the region 5 games are being used as a qualification process.

Namibia will make a return to the regional Under-17 competition having not competed since they finished third in 2018.

Namibia won the championship in 2016 but have only been to one of the last five tournaments due to a range of factors.

Namibia will start of their campaign against host Angola on December 02 in group A, before they take on Malawi on December 04 and Botswana on December 06, for a place in the semi-finals.
