Telecom Namibia inks MoU with NAPWU.

Telecom Namibia and the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) formalized cooperation with the signing of a Recognition and Procedural Agreement.

The signing ceremony, held at the Telecom Namibia headquarters in Windhoek, was attended by key stakeholders including the NAPWU General Secretary, Peter Nevonga and NAPWU leadership, Telecom Namibia’s CEO, Stanley Shanapinda, members of the Executive and Management and negotiation teams.

“This agreement signifies a significant milestone in our longstanding relationship with NAPWU,”

It reflects our mutual commitment to a productive and harmonious workplace that benefits both our employees and the company said Shanapinda.”

Likewise Nevonga added that the purpose of the Agreement is to regulate industrial relations between the Company and the Union and to develop and foster a fair and equitable relationship between the Union and the Company.

“We are pleased to have reached this milestone with Telecom Namibia

This agreement demonstrates our shared commitment to the welfare of our members and to the continued success of Telecom Namibia as a leading telecommunications provider in Namibia”said Nevonga.

The Inaugural Recognition and Procedural Agreement between Telecom Namibia and NAPWU was signed in 1999.

The agreement, replacing a 25-year-old predecessor, establishes a modern framework for labour relations that aligns with the amendments in the Labour Act and the evolving needs of both parties.

The NAPWU General Secretary further called on the parties to always negotiate in good faith and work together to amicably resolve any issues that may arise between the parties.

Acting Chief Chief HR Officer Dolly Nashandih said that the Human Resources Division has the anchor role in facilitating review and input into the Agreement.

“As custodian of Telecom Namibia’s Human Capital, HR equally oversees the implementation of various elements stipulated in the Agreement, while supporting the Company and employees in the execution of duties in fulfilment of the obligations and objectives of the Agreement “she noted.
