Tjombe enjoys rugby in Scotland

IT is barely two weeks since Diamando Tumbee Tjombe (22) moved to Scotland to play rugby, however the former Namibia’s U-20 international player did not need much time to settle in at new club Jed-Forest after making his debut the first week he arrived in Scotland.
Tjombe made his debut on 27 October in a Scottish Cup round of 16 matches against Boroughmuir in a 23-12 win for his side, which will see his team take on Edinburg Accies on 25 January 2020 for a place in the semi-finals.
He previously played amateur rugby in South Africa at Stellenbosch Rugby Academy and at Western Rugby Club in the Namibia Rugby Premier League.
Besides playing rugby, Tjombe, son to Anita Tjombe, the owner of Iron Lady Boxing Promotions, is a qualified fire-fighter, a qualification he obtained at the City of Windhoek‘s Fire Brigade.
He attended his primary and secondary education at Windhoek Gymnasium Private School.
In an interview with Confidente this week from his base in Scotland, Tjombe said his move to Europe is to showcase his talent in order to be scouted by professional clubs. He said he also hopes to represent Namibia at the Rugby World Cup in the near future.
“I moved to Scotland on 22 October. I have an agent that helped me get the [transfer] deal to Scotland. Since I am playing amateur rugby, my dream is to break into a professional side. I am currently staying in the club house. I would like to play for Namibia at future rugby world cups.

“My teammates, including the management, gave me a warm welcoming on the very first day and I really appreciated it. Training in Europe is totally different due to the weather. I am loving every moment in Scotland and hoping to continue improving with my rugby skills here,” Tjombe said.
Jed-Forest might be flying high in the Scottish Cup, but their league form is worrisome as they are in sixth position on the table with 16 points after seven matches going into this weekend’s match against second-placed Currie Chieftains, who have 31 points, just a point adrift of log leaders Marr Rugby Club with 32 points – also from seven matches.

We started off poorly in the opening matches of the season but we have a group of players who can turn around the table.
The Cup progress is a big motivator for us as we want to build on cup success. It will be a very tough match against Currie but we just have to have the belief that we are just as good as them,” Tjombe said.
