Turks donate hampers to kids with disabilities

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) last week donated food parcels to Side by Side Early Intervention Centre, a non-profit care-centre for children with disability and their families.
Located at Goreangab, east of Katutura, the Centre takes care of about 150 children between the ages of 0 and 7 years who are living with Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delays and other severe disabilities.
The Centre is designed to provide support to the children and their families in a welcoming, stimulating, secure and caring environment and offer early intervention programmes for families concerned about the development of their children.
Last week, 32 parcels worth about N 000, consisting mainly of vegetables, fruits and vitamins to ensure that the children receive the necessary food to maintain their physical health, were carefully put together based on the needs of each of the children and distributed to their families by TIKA.
Turkish organisation TIKA conducts economic, social and cultural activities in sister countries with a main focus on cooperation in the field of education and culture. Turkey has become one of the country offering the highest humanitarian assistance in the world and TIKA works in more than 150 countries.
Windhoek program coordinator Özlem Güvenç who spoke at the handover ceremony, said “children are the future of every country, that’s why TIKA donated food packages to enhance the nutrition needed by children with disability during this difficult time of Covid-19”.
Also speaking at donations, Side by Side director Sandra Hollweg said they are eternally grateful for the selfless act and the generous support that the families have received from TIKA.
