” The two men were arrested over the weekend and were due to appear before the local magistrate this week.

Further details of the alleged crimes are sketchy, but it is understood that the matter was only reported to the police last Friday after the child’s guardian had returned home.

The latest case of child sex abuse comes as the Namibian Police announced at the end of last month that 26 rape cases involving minors were reported countrywide during July and August. It was not clear how many such cases go unreported.

Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi warned of a growing trend of rape cases involving minor children.

“We hereby appeal to all parents and the public at large to be vigilant when looking after minors as this will prevent their children from becoming victims,” Kanguatjivi said.
