Uefa Champions and CAF move into final stages
Next week sees the first leg of the Uefa Champion League semi finals. The first two matches of the first leg will be played on Tuesday the 27th and Wednesday the 28th. Chelsea will be facing Real Madrid at 21:00 CAT at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefanoand stadium in Madrid on the 27th in the first clash of the semi final first leg. Real Madrid will be hoping that the home game advantage will be enough to beat the London team. Chelsea overcame Porto in the quarter finals by beating them 2-1 aggregate and Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 aggregate to move into the semis. Manchester City will be playing against Paris Saint Germain in the second match of the first leg on the 28th. This match will take place at Parc des Princes in Paris and kick off will be at 21:00 CAT. Paris Saint Germain progressed to the semi finals by beating Bayern Munich with away goals with the aggregate being 3-3 and Manchester city beat Dortmund with a 4-1 aggregate. Both matches will showcase Europe’s finest football and should give both teams a chance to get ready for the second leg of the semis which will take place on the 4th and 5th of May.
The draw for the CAF Champions League will be done on the 30th of April. All the matches of the group stages have now been played, leaving only the eight teams that will be progressing to quarter finals. South Africa and Algeria are the only two countries that have two teams going into the quarter finals. The eight teams that reached the quarter finals are: Al Ahly SC (Egypt), Simba SC (Tanzania), Waydad AC (Morocco), Esperance Sportive du Tunis (Tunisia), MC Alger (Algeria), CR Belouizdad (Algeria), MC Alger (Algeria), Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa) and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa). Nine time record champions and current title holders Al Ahly will be one of the teams to look out for and well as Mamelodi Sundowns who had a great group stage round.
