UNAM enrolment increases for first years

DESPITE the poor performance by the grade 11 learners, with a pass rate of only 18.8 percent this year, Confidente has established that as of March 4 the number of first-year students that applied at the University of Namibia (UNAM) went up.

UNAM spokesperson John Haufiku said the figure increased to over 6 000 compared to the number of learners that applied for their tertiary education in 2021, which was 5 570.

He highlighted the reasons as to why there is a high number of students that have enrolled this year compared to last year saying, “Chances are more students are repeating first years or more students this year came to UNAM.”
