The partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Home Affairs Ministry is a significant step towards addressing the crucial theme of digital legal identity.

The collaboration, which happened through the Accelerator Lab and the Chief Digital Officer, took place in Windhoek from the 13th to the 17th of May. Margaret Kalo, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Home Affairs, said that the engagement touched on various aspects of civil registrations, vital statistics, and identity management.

“The discussion saw participation from key stakeholders including the Justice Ministry and the Judiciary, the office of the Prime Minister, Finance, Health and Social Services, National Assembly, Civil Society, and the Anti-Corruption Commission’’ she said.

Kalo further added that special attention was given to the intersection of legal identity and women’s empowerment and inclusion, with participants engaging in discussions to address gender disparities in documents.
