Uranium One Group pours investment towards Volleyball

THE Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF), in conjunction with the Uranium One Group (UOG), hosted a coaching clinic at Leonardville in the Omaheke Region last week.

UOG is a mining company that is busy with uranium exploration in the area.

The NVF has so far formed eight regional associations that exclude the Omaheke region.

The programme was designed to aid the teachers in identifying talent and assisting learners in developing volleyball careers.

“It is in accordance with our strategic plan to expand volleyball to every part of the country, this is just the beginning of volleyball visibility in the region, and we are thankful to UOG for coming on board,” NVF Technical Director, Joseph Amakali said.

While introducing learners to certain volleyball fundamentals, teachers and other interested community members received training to become trainers.

According to Wendelina Nailonga, the NVF’s director of development said it was crucial to transmit skills so that children are taught the proper techniques from the start.

The primary target group was mainly between the ages of 8 and 15, but other community members demanded to be taken through.

“Among other development centres we have established this year in the region, we have one in Otjinene, but the number of kids in this area has exceeded all others,” Nailonga said.
