ONE of the country’s top netball players, Leandri van der Walt gave birth to a baby girl on June 11, which she describes as a big blessing to her, even though she still misses playing netball for both country and club FNB Wanderers in the Khomas region.

Van der Walt was one of the Desert Jewels’ top performers at the 2019 M1 Nations Cup in Singapore, which Namibia won.

Due to pregnancy, Van der Walt missed the 2021 Spar Netball Challenge that was held in South Africa in March this year.

Speaking to Confidente Sport after giving birth, the excited new mother said she is now looking forward to getting back on the court adding that she wants her baby to follow in her footsteps.

“I have given birth to the most perfect baby girl.

My entire family is embracing her presence and she is nothing but a blessing. I will definitely be back on court as soon as I am ready. For now Covid-19 is so hectic and all netball activities have been stopped, so I am not really missing out much.

“I miss netball but I am also enjoying the time off to bond with the baby.

While she was still in the womb, the netball girls and I have been making jokes that she is already a netball player since she was very active inside the womb. She will grow up next to the netball court”, said Van der Walt.
