Visit your relatives – Amunyela

BY MARX ITAMALO

THE head of the Namibia Correctional Service (NCS), commissioner general Raphael Tuhafeni Hamunyela, has urged members of the public who have relatives detained in rehabilitation centers across the country to pay them visits and not abandon them. He stresses this is crucial as it also contributes to efforts to rehabilitate them.

Hamunyela said that rehabilitation facilities in the country are full of inmates, some of whom have never received a visitor during their incarceration time. He said, in some respects, this undermines their efforts to rehabilitate inmates as they also need their family support.

“Our centers are full and some inmates never get visitors. This in one way could be attributed to the fact that some inmates are placed far from their areas of birth or residence and relatives or friends find it difficult to visit them,” he stated.
