VTC offers free school renovations

VOLOMBOLA Vocational Training Centre (VVTC) centre manager Mwashekele Hinandjovo has urged dilapidated government-owned schools to approach the Ongwediva-based VTC for renovations.

He said the VTC recently undertook an initiative to support disadvantaged schools in the northern regions whereby the VTC fixed leaking taps at Mureti High School in Opuwo and is currently renovating Onantanga Combined School in Oshikoto region.

Hinandjovo added that Valombola is doing this in collaboration with Eenhana and Nakayale VTCs with sponsorhip from GIZ. He added that the initiative has been driven by civil society and supports schools that cannot afford labour costs to maintain their ageing infrastructure.

In addition, the centre manager said the renovations are being done free of charge.

“The labour was performed by Valombola VTC’s production unit, which is the business arm of the VTC.

This section, amongst other things, provides ready-to-use products from the clothing, carpentry and welding and mental fabrication trades.

The production unity is also capable of providing consultancy services on different civil and building projects,” he said.

Hinandjovo noted that although the unit is committed to provide free labour for refurbishment to schools, the schools buys materials on their own. “This effort was supported by our training department and our training department and our trainees from the three centres, who make up the hub.

“The hub is an initiative championed by Namibia Training Authority and financially supported by the European Union and implemented by GIZ. The hub brings together Eenhana, Nakayale and Valombola VTCs to allow the centres to share resources, expertise and experiences for the betterment of technical and vocational education in Namibia.
