We are forced to increase taxi fares – NABTA
• By Rudolf R. Gaiseb
TWO taxi bodies are considering increasing fares after this week’s fuel price increases.
Namibian Bus and Taxi Association (NABTA) president Pendapala Nakathingo said the latest fuel price hikes calls for an urgent review of taxi fares.
According to Nakathingo, the Association is proposing an increase in taxi fees, which he said he hopes the Transport Ministry will respond to in due course.
Following the recent fuel price increases, Nakathingo stated that the Association has no choice except to raise taxi charges.
“We are currently busy considering how much we can increase it, but we’ll let the public know once we decide,” Nakathingo stated.
Namibia Taxi and Transport Union president Werner Januarie says they are actively consulting members to ask the government for a 10 to 20 per cent taxi fare raise.
