We will do it for Hage: Boxers… As they aim for olympic qualifications

• By Michael Uugwanga

RENOUNCED amateur boxer and regular Olympian competitor, Jonas Junias Jonas says he will make sure he qualifies for the Summer Olympics scheduled for Paris, France, as an honour to the late President Hage Geingob.

After qualifying, Jonas says he intends to win the country’s first gold medal, a feast he says will be dedicated to the late President. However, the boxer knows he has to qualify first, an achievement he has set his eyes on.

Jonas is one of six boxers representing their country at next month’s upcoming boxing Summer Olympics qualifiers. Junias’ teammates are TryAgain Ndevelo, Petrus Festus, Johannes Trofimus, Gebhard Ipinge, and Elifas Shailemo.

Speaking to Confidente this week during training before departing for Italy on February 28, Junias (30) pointed out that if politics in boxing, particularly at the amateur level, did not exist, he would have won an Olympic medal.
