Workers’ Day Celebrated Amidst Suffering

• By Allexer Namundjembo

Despite enduring hardships, workers around the country united in celebration of workers Day, emphasizing the resilience and dedication that define their ongoing fight for better conditions.

In Namibia, the plight of workers persists. Many continue to toil under precarious contract arrangements, receiving meager wages that barely sustain their livelihoods. Despite calls for reform and better regulation from labour unions and activists, the labour appears to be lacking in its commitment to addressing the dire conditions workers face, leaving many feeling neglected and vulnerable.

Kadhila Amoomo, a lawyer from Kadhila Amoomo Legal Practitioners, has said that Namibia does not have happy workers.

“The truth is that there is nothing like happy workers in Namibia. Namibia is the second most unequal society in the world,” he said. Amoomo further noted that the nation is demoralized by sellout leaders.
