Young Achievers project a success

THE Young Achievers Empowerment project, held this past weekend has brought together over 100 delegates to Oshana region for its 8th annual conference under the theme: “reviving economic growth amongst the youth.”

The conference was used as an opportunity to propose ways on how young people can revive economic growth amongst themselves, discussed activities of the youth led organization throughout the year, challenges and successes of each of their five branches in Windhoek, Ongwediva ,Eloolo, Rundu and Walvis bay.

Delegates highlighted that young people needed to start having an entrepreneurial mind set by establishing business, investing and being innovative. They also called on the public and private sector to give young people free collateral loans for their business ideas and create an inclusive economic sector in which young people can actively participate.

Sylvia Elifas one of the delegates of the young achievers (YA) has become a better version of herself ever since joining the YA in February 2014: “So far the journey has been smooth though nothing really comes without challenges. I love the person I have become through YA, I am more confident and have a high self-esteem. To this day I love being part of the YA because it gives me endless satisfaction.”

According to Shoki Kandjimi, a youth leader, it is very important for young people to have such conferences: “This where the youth get ideas on how they can at least participate meaningfully to the economic system of Namibia. This is also how we can come up with the ideas of coping with the economic climate and how we can overcome it.  Most importantly its to bring young people together so they can engage each other on youth maters.”

All young persons can join the Young Achievers project simply by attending one of their weekly meetings held at all five branches. The conference will be hosted again next year in Windhoek.
