Zambezi governor laments porous border

… as crime shoots up amid pandemic

GOVERNOR of the Zambezi region, Lawrence Sampofu has lamented the porousness of the region’s borderline which remains a major contributing factor to revenue leakage and importation of illicit goods.
In his State of the Region address this week, Sampofu highlighted that even while the Covid-19 regulation was in force, both Namibian and foreign nationals continued to smuggle goods across the adjoining rivers leading to numerous arrests and seizures of goods.

Sampofu further decried surge in crime saying that statistics show that in 2020/21 crime rate drastically increased from 3 488 cases to 5 424 cases.
