Zimbabwean nabbed over N$650k fake medicine

…as fears of ‘dangerous’ drugs acquired by Govt arise

COSPHARM Group managing director Cosmas Mukaratirwa was this week arrested for allegedly selling unregistered medicine at a value of close to N$658 000 to government’s Central Medial Stores, Confidente has learnt.

Mukaratirwa who was nabbed at Hosea Kutako International Airport on Sunday made his first appearance at the Windhoek magistrate’s court on Monday.

Court documents seen by Confidente note that Mukaratirwa is facing charges of contravening section 18 of the Medicinesand Related Substances Control Act 13 of 2003.

According to the charge sheet, Mukaratirwa sold 10 000 units of Esomeprazole 40mg IV to the Central Medical Stores. Esomeprazole reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes. It is used for heartburn, acid reflux and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease
