The timeless beauty of Indian textiles took centre stage this week as India’s High Commissioner to Namibia, Rahul Shrivastava, delivered an inspiring speech at an exhibition celebrating India’s rich textile heritage.  The event, attended by Namibian government officials, diplomats, industry leaders, media, and members of the Indian diaspora, showcased not just fabric, but the very threads of history, culture, and innovation.

Namdia’s support hits Govt table

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Natangwe Ithete, this week, urged Namibians to maintain trust in local diamond marketing and sales company Namdia and commented the parastatal for its continued efforts to plough back into society. “I commend Namdia for its strong social responsibility efforts and urge all Namibians to remain confident and proud of this institution, which belongs to us,” said Ithete.

The much-anticipated MTC Content Creators Awards 2025 has officially unveiled its nominees, following an overwhelming public response that saw more than 12 000 votes cast across 21 categories. The top four nominees in each category will now vie for top honors at the grand finale on 29 November 2025, where Namibia’s digital stars will be celebrated in style.

Tourism giant seal wage deal

The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) have reached an agreement on salary adjustments and performance rewards for the 2025/2026 financial year, bringing to a close weeks of wage negotiations. The agreement, signed on 17 September in Windhoek, underscores NTB’s commitment to fair labour practices and continuous improvement of working conditions for its employees. 

Petroleum local content policy wraps up

The Presidency, through its Upstream Petroleum Unit, has successfully concluded nationwide public consultations on the draft National Upstream Petroleum Local Content Policy, engaging communities across the country to shape Namibia’s petroleum future.  The initiative aimed to ensure broad participation and inclusivity in the formulation of a policy that will guide the management, development, and distribution of benefits from the domestic oil and gas sector.

China-Nam relations can only get better - Weiping

The Chinese government has reiterated its willingness to deepen the friendship between Namibians and the People’s Republic of China through continued developmental assistance and support to the limits of its capabilities – while carrying out more people-oriented projects that will directly benefit the masses.  This revelation was made by Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Zhao Weiping. The ambassador made these remarks recently, as the two countries commemorate 35 years of partnership and bilateral relations.

Renowned for being free-range, grass-fed, and sustainably produced across Namibia’s vast farmlands, Namibian beef is the only African beef approved for export to both the United States and Europe. Its arrival in Germany underscores a growing international reputation for quality and sustainability.

Nandi-Ndaitwah cracks whip on Swapo candidates

As the Swapo party’s campaign to reclaim constituencies lost during the last local and regional authority elections gain momentum, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged prospective councillors to refrain from pushing petitions inspired by waywardness and self-seeking agendas.  She made these remarks during her maiden address of the Swapo Central since her election to the party presidency at the Extraordinary Congress in March 2025.
