DJ Thexa: The Rising Star Juggling Beats and Books in Namibia's Nightlife Scene

DJ Thexa

Rising star DJ Thexa, whose real name is Theron Herman, is not only spinning the decks as a resident DJ at The Loft—arguably Namibia’s largest nightclub—but also juggling his academic studies with an impressive music career.

With the hit song "Skroef Fontein," which recently surpassed 1 million views on YouTube, and involvement in the production of a string of chart-topping tracks, including DJ Spuzza’s “Shootah,” “Maak Hom Choss,” and “Don’t Talk At The Party,” Thexa is cementing his status as a formidable force in the local amapiano music scene.

While he showcases his unique flair for mixing genres and blending local and amapiano beats to create a sound that keeps the crowd entertained, Thexa is one DJ making waves that resonate far beyond the borders of Namibia.

“I love the energy of the club. Every set is an opportunity to connect with people and bring them joy through music. It’s a magical experience that never gets old,” he shared.

Thexa’s meteoric rise reached a milestone when his recent track, “Skroef Fontein,” hit over 1 million views on YouTube, catapulting him to national recognition and fame. The song, which refers to disappointments stemming from romantic relationships, features the catchy phrase, “daar word geskroef,” which has since appealed to content creators as well.

“I never expected it. The support from my fans has been overwhelming. It pushes me to create even more music that speaks to our unique experiences,” he said.

But “Skroef Fontein” is just the tip of the iceberg, as Thexa has co-produced a variety of hit tracks that have similarly captured the hearts of listeners across Namibia. His collaborations with DJ Spuzza have further solidified his reputation, as they have been crafting a catalog of hits that continue to garner millions of views.

“The synergy between Spuzza and I is incredible. Working with him and other local talent has really allowed me to explore different sounds and tell our stories through music. It is important for me to express myself and share my talents through my work,” he explained.

While his music career is flourishing, Thexa remains dedicated to his studies. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Marketing at the Namibia University of Science and Technology, he manages to balance late-night gigs and early morning lectures—a feat that requires impeccable time management and a passion for both his studies and his art.

“It’s all about finding a balance. School has taught me discipline, which translates well into my music career. I’ve learned how to prioritize and make the most of my time, allowing me to succeed in both areas.”

With plans to release an EP featuring remixes of his favorite tracks from across southern Africa, the future is looking exceptionally bright for DJ Thexa. As he continues to break boundaries in music while dedicating himself to his academic pursuits, he serves as an inspiration to aspiring artists and students alike.

In a world where the pursuit of passion often clashes with the demands of daily life, DJ Thexa proves that with hard work, determination, and a love for what you do, anything is possible. Keep an eye out for this rising star—he is just getting started, and his beats are bound to echo far beyond Namibia’s borders.
