Young Handball Umpire Velikoshi Selected for YOA

Renowned young handball umpire, Prince Velikoshi, is among the fortunate individuals worldwide selected to attend the 65th International Session for Young Olympic Ambassadors (YOA) in Athens, Greece, from June 7th to 19th this year.
The Namibia Handball Federation (NHF) announced his selection last week.
Velikoshi, 19, the youngest certified/qualified handball umpire, having attained an NHF D-coaching license certificate last year, is highly regarded by the federation for his hard work and dedication to the sport.
While handball may be new to many, individuals like Velikoshi are elevating the sport, thanks to the continued support he and others receive from the federation under the leadership of its founding president, Issy Nakamwe.
The aim of YOA is to unite young people aged 20 to 30 from around the globe in a spirit of friendship and cooperation, encouraging them to build upon the knowledge acquired during their stay in Olympia as worthy ambassadors for Olympism.
The YOA sessions offer a unique and once-in-a-lifetime experience to live for two weeks in a multicultural environment, fostering international understanding and acceptance by providing an international forum for free expression and exchange of ideas and practices related to the Olympic movement.
Previous Namibian YOA participants include June Shimuoshili and Tuyeimo Haidula, both renowned journalists.
“It feels very exciting to be selected to attend the event, and I am very happy and glad that the NHF have chosen me to represent them. I did not apply; I simply saw it on the NHF WhatsApp that I had been selected to represent the country in Athens. I am currently a student at Atlantic Training Institution, majoring in nursing and midwifery. This trip means a lot to me since I have never been abroad before, especially to that part of the world. I think I am going to enjoy every moment,” said Velikoshi.
