The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) vice president for Africa, Naftal Kambungu said the organization’s just-concluded general assembly held in Windhoek, deliberated on pressing youth issues, including access to education, health care, clean water, and sanitation.

Kambungu explained that one of the resolutions was on free education and the international youth body will continue to advocate for policies that will benefit young people.  He also indicated that the delegates visited notable Namibian sites such as Swakopmund and Etosha, with the event contributing to local tourism and fostering international relations.

“That is an investment in tourism, [which] is a major part of the general assembly. Networking is also part of the general assembly, exchanging contacts and finding certain areas of interest together, and in that account, forming friendships, networking, and some bilateral agreements between individuals,” Kambungu stated.

Reflecting on his personal experience at the federation, Kambungu spoke of the insights he gained from global leaders.
“I met about 11 presidents of different countries, and I sat with them. [I] understood what leadership stands for. I have learned that leadership is not managing, it is about being a servant of the people,” he added.

He further urged the Namibian and African youth to take an active interest in the WFDY and its mission.
“I would like to appeal to the young people that we must move away from ignorance… I am calling on the young people of Namibia and Africa to know which institutions are available in the world and on the continent.

“They should not wait for the general assembly and take advantage [of the fact] that we have a Namibian like myself, who is the vice president representing Africa. Youth organisations should take time and sit with me. I am available and ready to dialogue about WFDY.”
