Namibia Tourism Board, ASITA Bali Sign Partnership to Boost Bilateral Tourism

    The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and the Association of Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Bali have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote tourism cooperation between Namibia and Indonesia.

WORKS and transport minister Veikko Nekundi has said that the transport sector needs to be revolutionalized and professionalized in order to benefit vehicle owners, drivers and road users as of now; the industry has some of the worst laws and acts that are detrimental to the benefit of many Namibians.

EU flags Namibia as high-risk for money laundering

    In a move to strengthen global financial safeguards, the European Commission has added Namibia to its updated list of high-risk jurisdictions for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT), following recent deliberations by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The announcement was made on Thursday by the European Union (EU) delegation in Namibia. 

    Namibia now joins other countries on the high-risk list, including Algeria, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Laos, Lebanon, Monaco, Nepal, and Venezuela.

Agribank clears air on allegations

The Agricultural Bank of Namibia (Agribank) has strongly pushed back against a series of recent allegations raised by disgruntled employees, describing many of the claims as misinformed and lacking context.

The allegations, which includes flawed recruitment processes, employee victimisation, nepotism, procurement irregularities, credit card abuse, and conflicts of interest, were outlined in a recent Confidente edition.

Environment minister hears whistleblowers

    Environment, forestry and tourism minister, Indileni Daniel has launched an internal investigation following the emergence of a sequence of assertions, specifically touching on six expats who are said to be taking credit for work done by Namibians, corrupt disbursement of funds from an investment fund as well as irregularities related to the 2024 Etotha Carnival. 

Black Africa on the verge of relegation

    The country’s most decorated top flight football club, Black Africa SC, is close to getting relegated from the Southern Stream First Division down to the Khomas Second Division league, unless they beat Ramblers with a score line of 11-0, this coming weekend.
    Even so, the club which is the 2019 premiership champions, would rely on Date Eleven beating Oranjemund FC, in order to remain in the country’s second tier football league.

Schmidt’s alleged probe still pending

Investigations in alleged mismanagement leveled against suspended Namibia National Paralympic Committee (NNPC) treasurer Jean-Paul Schmidt, are not yet been finalized, nearly a year on. Schmidt’s is further accused of other allegations abuse of power and unconstitutional procedures. He was appointed in the treasurer position in 2021.

Regional handball tourney set for the coast

    THE Namibia Handball Federation (NHF) is set to host its third national regional tournament in Swakopmund, Erongo Region, from 10 to 13 September. The tournament will also serve as ideal preparations for the Namibia’s participation in the 2026 International Handball Championship that will be held in Lesotho.
