The unprocedural suspension of recently reinstated Director of the National Youth Council of Namibia (NYC), Calista Schwartz-Gowases, resulted in emotional, physical, and social strain, and further financial implications and operational mix-ups.
Confidente has learned that Schwartz-Gowases’ suspension cost the entity over N$2.3 million, spent on salaries, legal fees, and performance bonuses, of which she was a beneficiary despite her absence. She was suspended in March 2024.

Leaders and members of the Namibia National Students Organisation (NANSO) has been urged to reignite, amongst the youth, the same fire that propelled leaders like Namibia’s late founding president Dr. Sam Nujoma during the liberation struggle, resulting in young people becoming key players towards the attainment of Namibia’s independence.

Two promising Namibian sprinters, Brendan Kanchana and Engelhardt Gariseb, have qualified for the prestigious Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon, USA, from June 19 to 21. This event, a pinnacle of youth track and field competition, attracts nearly 5,000 athletes vying for national championships and potential World Championship berths.
Despite qualifying, both athletes are seeking financial assistance from corporate sponsors or individuals to fund their trip.

Go-karting, often perceived as a male-dominated sport, is being redefined by Nikita Thieme, Namibia’s leading female go-karter. The 17-year-old is challenging stereotypes and making her mark on the track.
Thieme stands out as the sole female competitor in the Go-Karting Direct Drive (DD) 2 category, typically dominated by male drivers. This hasn’t hindered her success; she consistently wins races and championships.

Beauties FC striker Fiola ‘Halaand’ Vliete leads with 14 goals, followed closely by FC Ongos midfielder Memory Ngonda and Khomas NamPol’s goal-shooter Shange Tomas, both with 13 goals.

The Namibia Football Association (NFA), Namibia Rugby Union (NRU), and the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Fitness and Boxing Academy have all lost their patrons, Dr. Hage Geingob and founding President Sam Nujoma.
Geingob, who passed away last February, was the patron of both the NFA and NRU, while founding President Nujoma, who passed away last month, was the patron of MTC Sunshine Tobias Fitness and Boxing Academy.
Their deaths leave the three institutions without patrons, requiring them to seek new patrons.

Namibian long-distance runner, Alina Armas has called for the increase of the Rössing Marathon’s prize money.
The 43-year-old Olympian said this after she won the women’s 42.2km marathon at Swakopmund, in a time of 02:45:32, with Beata Naigambo (03:03:23) and Risa Dreyer (03:23:06) finishing second and third, respectively.
“I want to tell the management of Rössing Uranium that they must adjust the payment please. I want them to improve the prize money for the top eight positions,” said Armas.
