Government disburses N$89.2 m in electricity tariff subsidy

The Namibian government has disbursed N$89.2 million of the N$365 million allocated to subsidise electricity tariffs for the 2024/2025 financial year, an official has revealed.
The subsidy was introduced to counter the impact of an 8% electricity tariff increase and ensure consumers continue to pay the same rates as in the previous year.

‘I did not kill Kandara’ - Sheehama

Former Chief Inspector in the Namibian Police and Head of the Serious Crime Unit, Oscar Sheehama, has reiterated that contrary to perception and hearsay, he had no hand in the death of the late corruption accused, Lazarus Kandara. 
Sheehama is the police officer who gave instructions for Kandara to be taken to his house - to collect medication - following his arrest and hours before the latter succumbed to a gunshot wound in front of a police station in the city, on August 24, 2005.

Nine-year-old Josephat Russell is already making waves in the world of go-karting. He recently took third place overall at the Rand Kart Club Championship in South Africa, competing against older kids in the Micro Max category and not his usual Bambino race. 

Josephat only started racing at the tender age of five and has already made the sport his own, winning the Namibian Bambino Championship last year.

First Horse Racing Event Set for End of March

The first horse racing event of the year is set to take place on March 29 at the Epukiro Horse Racing Turf in the Omaheke Region, according to Mannes Hendrick, president of the Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA).

Horse racing has consistently been one of the most well-attended sports in the country over the years, and the sport continues to grow thanks to the hard work and determination of its leadership, as well as financial injections from the corporate world that have changed the face of the sport.

Jwaneng Galaxy Never Pursued Kanalelo - Morake

Botswana’s Premiership champions, Jwaneng Galaxy FC, have strongly denied reports that they were pursuing former African Stars coach, Ronny Kanalelo. 

These reports suggested Kanalelo was in line to succeed Morena Ramoreboli, who was recently appointed head coach of Botswana’s senior men's national team, nicknamed the Zebras.

Kanalelo is currently without a club after leaving African Stars last month. Despite rumours linking him to Jwaneng, club officials said this was not the case.

Paralympic gold medalist Ishitile financially rewarded …but no house yet
