Kahimise raps NORED over staff fatalities

Electricity Control Board (ECB) CEO, Robert Kahimise, recently criticized the northern Namibia regional Electricity Distributor (Nored) over electrocution incidents, some resulting in fatalities.
The ECB, mandated to address safety, developed the Namibia Electricity Safety Code (NESC), published in Government Gazette No. 4821 on 31 October 2011. The NESC sets minimum safety standards for power system operation, maintenance, construction, and installation in Namibia.

Diplomatic bungles became the order of the day at the just concluded presidential
inauguration, when slay queens hijacked the event, leaving some international delegates without seats, while some local VIPs were also left stranded.
Confidente was reliably informed by some organising committee officials that some lead organisers invited their concubines, girlfriends and people who were
not invited with VVIP tickets, leaving the invited guests stranded.

Nandi-Ndaitwah cuts ministries from 21 to 14

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has reduced the number of ministries from 21 to 14, in a deliberate move to consolidate democracy, peace, stability and good governance in the country, while expediting the delivery of quality public services to all Namibians.

Outgoing President, Dr Nangolo Mbumba has voiced that Namibia’s struggle for gender equality which has culminated into the inauguration of Namibia’s first female president was far from easy. 
Speaking at the commemoration of the country’s 35th Independence Anniversary, which coincided with the inauguration of President Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President Mbumba maintained that the inaugural event is long overdue.

Namibia’s fifth democratically elected Head of State, Her Excellency Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has taken to the helm of the country’s presidency amidst a lot of hype around her being the country’s first female president. 
However, on Friday, 21 March, taking to the podium for her inaugural address, President Nandi-Ndaitwah stressed that while becoming the first woman president is worthy of a celebration, in honour of women empowerment, her gender should not be used as a yardstick for her ascendance to the presidency.

Blue Boys in relegation fight - Akan

Blue Boys head coach, Ali Akan has conceded that the Swakopmund-based club are in a relegation battle this season, after seeing his side collecting only one point at home over the past weekend.
The team’s match against Young Brazilians on Sunday, ended in a 1:1 draw. This after, the Blue Boys got a thumping of 2:0 from title chasers Khomas NamPol the past Saturday.

Christine Eiman didn’t just step into Namibia’s air traffic control; she stormed it, becoming the second woman to command the skies, and paving the way for a generation.
Employed by the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Eiman became the second woman to join air traffic control in Namibia, with 30 years’ experience as an Air Traffic Control Manager serving Windhoek’s aviation station.
